Commitment to Professionalism and Wellness Focused Behavior:

The residential, accelerated, and international aspects of the program create the need for an extremely high level of professionalism. It is critical that the environment be structured, consistent, safe, predictable, and professional. Our staff and instructors model professional attributes that are indicative of successful holistic health care practitioners and students are expected to follow suit. Our policies and procedures have been designed to support our commitments to professionalism and wellness focused behavior.
Your studies, health, and personal and professional relationships are to be your first and foremost priorities. You must also remember that you are a part of a community of students just like you. As such your behavior will impact others and either support or inhibit their pursuits. Your success as well as the health, safety, and pursuits of your classmates can be attained through staying the course set before you. We encourage you to work hard, practice holistic living, be compassionate, proactive, conscientious and intentional.
 

Program Intensity:

Students have committed to completing their education in less than 4 months. CRSMT must be absolutely certain that our graduates are truly ready to be professional massage therapists in this short time. CRSMT classes are designed to be difficult and intense. Students are screened for serious intent, aptitude, and the ability to overcome obstacles and they are expected to keep up with the pace and maintain a strong work ethic and very high level of professionalism. The students at CRSMT are held to a much higher standard than the majority of massage school students in the U.S. simply because they have more to learn and more to prove in a shorter amount of time. CRSMT students have made firm commitments to the school (and to themselves) to do their best.
 

Classroom Etiquette and Professionalism Standards and Expectations:

CRSMT operates in an open and natural environment, and it is up to all of us in our unique and raw surroundings to bring maturity and decorum to the classroom at all times. It will be hot and humid, and with heat comes sweat, irritability, and low energy. The program is intense, and everyone will be tired, overwhelmed at times and “punchy.” It is important that we all work together to keep our composure.
CRSMT demands a high level of professionalism from their students. Failure to comply with classroom policies and standards of behavior will be noted by your instructors and will have a negative impact on your grade. Attendance, timeliness, preparedness, dress, hygiene, respect, focus and presence are considered important components of professional standards of behavior in the classroom.
 

Dress and Hygiene Code:

Dressing both professionally and comfortably for class is imperative in order to support the professional academic environment at CRSMT and hold professional massage boundaries. The student dress code requires clean, professional, and non-revealing clothing that is flexible and durable enough to support the classroom and clinic activities. Clothing should also be practical for the tropical environment. Light, breathable, cool, and fast drying fabrics are most appropriate. Students are required to follow the Dress and Hygiene Code for class, all-school events, and while working in the clinic.
Personal cleanliness and proper hygiene are essential and required at CRSMT. Students work and live together in a professional and very close setting. The tropical rainforests of Costa Rica facilitate a shifting of climatic extremes including heat and rain. While this is the perfect environment for new life, it also necessitates a higher than average standard of cleanliness. Students are expected to report to class properly bathed, clean, and hygienically prepared for the academic day.
Chronic or problematic dress and hygiene code violations in an individual class and/or cumulatively across various classes will have a negative impact on your final grade/s and may result in additional disciplinary action. You will be sent home to change if you do not arrive in appropriate attire.
 

Non-Discrimination Policy:

CRSMT admits students of any color, ethnic origin, gender, age, national origin, race, religious back ground, or sexual orientation to all of the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. CRSMT does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, age, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, scholarships, or other school administered programs.
 

Attendance Policy:

CRSMT is committed to the principle that regular and prompt attendance is a fundamental part of preparing students to have the professional skills necessary for success as a massage therapist. In addition, class attendance is essential for mastering coursework and contributing to the team-learning environment in the classroom. Furthermore, the certificate earned is based on supervised clock hours and state licensure boards require that all hours be accounted for. Therefore, CRSMT takes these attendance policies seriously and will enforce them consistently. Failure to comply with the attendance policies can result in failure to complete courses, probation, or expulsion.
Class attendance is MANDATORY and students are expected to be in class at the appropriate/appointed times with the proper/required materials. All absences, late arrivals and early departures are recorded and counted as class time missed. All class time missed will require make-up assignments and/or one-on-one tutoring. Tutoring fees are $25/hour and are payable directly to the Administrative Office.
Students are required to make proactive arrangements with the instructor to complete all missed work as well as additional make-up assignments. Make up work must be completed as soon as possible, but no later than within one week of the absence. Arrangements to take a missed quiz or exam must be made within 2 days of the absence or a zero will be given. Any deviations from these time frames are subject to the approval of the Director of Education.
Arriving late or leaving early disrupts the learning environment. All classes begin promptly and last until the appointed dismissal time. Tardiness and/or leaving early are not acceptable and will not be tolerated. Students will be considered tardy if they arrive after class begins (attendance is taken), return late from designated break time, and/or leave before class ends. Three tardies equate to one absence and make up work will be required accordingly. Missing more than one-third of a class will be considered an absence.

Students are required to handle any attendance issues in a professional manner as follows:
– Planned absence or tardiness: student must request time off in advance from the Instructor and the Director of Education.
– Absence or tardiness due to illness: student must inform the Instructor directly, by email, or via written notice through another student that they will not be in class and why. Notification of the instructor should occur prior to or within 24 hours of the absence.
– In either of these cases, the student is responsible to check the course syllabus and homework assignment sheets, obtain class notes from another student and approach the instructor to inquire about make-up work immediately upon return to class. Make-up assignments and/or tutoring requirements will be at the discretion of the instructor and Director of Education.

Absences that are not managed in a professional manner are considered unexcused absences and will be addressed as follows:
– Unexcused absences include illness due to alcohol/drug-related accidents or other misconduct, and/or failure to communicate with the instructor within 24 hours of the absence. Unplanned tardiness and early departure are also considered unexcused attendance violations.
– Unexcused attendance violations will result in significant reduction in the student’s Professionalism and Participation grade.
– In all cases, the student is responsible to check the course syllabus and homework assignment sheets, obtain class notes from another student and approach the instructor to inquire about make up work. Make up assignments and/or tutoring requirements will be at the discretion of the instructor and Director of Education.
– Make up assignments and missed quizzes and exams that are a result of an unexcused absence will be scored at a maximum of 70%.
– A pattern of unexcused absences, tardies, and/or early departures will result in serious academic consequences as well as disciplinary action up to and including expulsion.
– A student will not be eligible for a refund if he/she is expelled for unexcused attendance reasons.
 

Satisfactory Academic Progress:

A student must demonstrate academic progress by successfully completing classes with a grade of 70% or higher and completion of all class hours, assignments, quizzes, exams and make up work. Students must pass all written and hands-on final exams in order to pass the class. Students must pass every class in order to graduate. If a student is not meeting the established requirements, academic probation will be instituted. Specific requirements for tutoring, additional assignments, and retaking quizzes and exams will be included in the conditions of probation. Subsequent failure will result in academic expulsion.
The fast paced nature and intensity of the CRSMT academic program presents unique challenges and it is critical that students keep up with the pace. Falling behind can happen quickly and become a significant problem within just a couple of days. Difficulty mastering material, missed classes, lack of focus, or procrastination can all contribute to a significant impact in academic performance and a student’s ability to pass classes. In addition, our international location does not allow for students to retake incomplete or failed classes as you might be able to do in a domestic program “back home”. Accordingly, it is our sincere intent to not let any student “fall between the cracks” and the Director of Education and instructors work together to monitor students’ performance closely and consistently. Ultimately, it is the student’s responsibility to meet the academic requirements, but we are able to help by providing tutoring and academic guidance. Tutoring is available from the instructor. The fee is $25/hour.
 

Grading Standards:

Grading is based on the following scale:

CRSMT maintains a standard procedure for grading so that students are evaluated and graded fairly and consistently for every class. Every Course Syllabus contains a summary of all of the requirements for successful passage of the class as well as the relative weights assigned to each category. Requirements include professionalism and participation, homework assignments, presentations, written quizzes and exams, and hands-on exams. If a student wishes to challenge a grade, a formal challenge must be submitted to the Director of Education for consideration.
 

Academic Probation:

If a student is not maintaining satisfactory academic progress, the Director of Education will place a student on Academic Probation. Academic Probation is an official warning that the student’s academic performance must improve or the student will be subject to Academic Expulsion. Academic Probation includes mandatory tutoring (at additional cost to the student), attendance at office hours, additional assignments, structured and prescribed study hours and activities, and retaking quizzes and exams. Academic Probationary Status remains in effect until the student successfully completes the requirements and receives a passing grade in the class or classes of concern.
Academic probation requires significant extra effort from the instructors, administration, and staff. Accordingly, there are fees associated with it. The cost for academic probation is $150 for a 20-hour class and $300 for classes above 20 hours.
 

Problem Solving and Support:

Growth does not come without adversity and challenges, and there will be obstacles to overcome. Potential challenges include homesickness, conflicts with a peer, academic stress, sickness, need for privacy, loneliness, theft, physical challenges from the climate, and burn out. Students are encouraged to recognize that the challenges that arise during school are opportunities for growth. The instructors and the administration at CRSMT are committed to supporting the students through their challenges and adversity. When personal conflicts arise between individuals, Directors will offer guidance, if requested, and will support and encourage proactive problem-solving.
 

Mediation:

If you have attempted to resolve conflict on your own and have not been successful, mediation can be arranged with a Director through the Administrative Office.
 

Campus Security:

In order to foster and conserve the tranquility, cleanliness, safety, and academically nurturing environment of the CRSMT Campus, the campus is a private, gated facility. The use of dormitories and campus amenities is restricted to students, instructors, school administration and pre-approved guests.
The campus is protected with 24-hour security. Maintaining a safe and secure campus environment is also the responsibility of every student, instructor, and administrator. All members of the campus community are asked to keep their eyes open and report anything unusual to the Security Guard and/or Administration immediately. Please make wise decisions and respect our efforts to keep the CRSMT campus safe. ALWAYS close and lock the gate(s) behind you. If you see a gate unlocked, lock it. Use ONLY the main or the ocean-side pedestrian gates to enter and exit the campus.
Never let a stranger onto the property, even someone who claims they have a right to be there. Guests are only permitted on campus with prior approval of the Administration. If you don’t recognize someone and they do not have a guest pass, get the guard. ALWAYS report any strangers or any security concerns on the property to the security guard and/or the Administration. Never leave anything of value on your porch, in the classrooms, or by the pool.
 

Guests on Campus:

People not formally associated with the school are never permitted to be on campus without prior approval from the Administration. This includes, but is not limited to: vendors, Samara Massage Center clients, and new Samara friends.
Students are not permitted to bring guests onto the CRSMT campus without prior approval from the Administration and only on rare occasions and under special circumstances. Special circumstances generally include a good friend or family member traveling from abroad. Requests for Guest Passes are considered on a case-by-case basis and should be made well in advance of the date the guest will be visiting. It is advised not to wait until the day of or the day before guest arrival to request permission for a campus visit, as a director may not be readily available to consider the request.
Approved guests are permitted on school days after class until Campus Quiet Hours begin (8:00 pm) and on weekends from 8:00 a.m. until Campus Quiet Hours begin (10:00 pm). Overnight guests are NEVER permitted. All approved guests must adhere to all campus policies.
 

Privacy Policy:

This Privacy Policy governs the manner in which CRSMT collects, uses, maintains and discloses information collected from users (each, a “User”) of the www.crsmt.com website (“Site”). This privacy policy applies to the Site and all products and services offered by CRSMT.

Personal identification information

We may collect personal identification information from Users in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to, when Users visit our site, register on the site, place an order, fill out a form, and in connection with other activities, services, features or resources we make available on our Site. Users may be asked for, as appropriate, name, email address, phone number, credit card information. Users may, however, visit our Site anonymously. We will collect personal identification information from Users only if they voluntarily submit such information to us. Users can always refuse to supply personally identification information, except that it may prevent them from engaging in certain Site related activities.

We may collect non-personal identification information about Users whenever they interact with our Site. Our Site may use “cookies” to enhance User experience. User’s web browser places cookies on their hard drive for record-keeping purposes and sometimes to track information about them. User may choose to set their web browser to refuse cookies, or to alert you when cookies are being sent. If they do so, note that some parts of the Site may not function properly.

CRSMT may collect and use Users personal information for the following purposes:

We adopt appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of your personal information, username, password, transaction information and data stored on our Site.

Sensitive and private data exchange between the Site and its Users happens over a SSL secured communication channel and is encrypted and protected with digital signatures.

Sharing your personal information
